A Hidden Gem – The Darkest Place in North America (In the Best Way Possible!) We absolutely loved this place! From the moment we walked in, we felt truly welcomed. The food was incredibly delicious and full of unique flavors, and the drinks were creative and out of the ordinary – truly a culinary adventure. The man behind it all is just wonderful – super friendly, passionate, and knowledgeable. He took the time to explain everything and gave us great recommendations. We felt completely at ease and cared for the whole time. If we weren’t just visiting as tourists, we would come back again and again. A truly special spot that deserves to be known!

For a small location in the basement, 15 seats , reserve online , it's well worth it ... Matt one of the owners was the one I met , Matt was super great to talk to , the food is really good they make the pasta and bread fresh daily , I had the French onion bone marrow, the lasagna and Terra Mizzou for desert. Service was fantastic, great conversation while sitting at the bar. I was not left hungry after the lasagna, but Jack, the bartender and server talked me into it. (He didn't have to work hard to convince me after the rest of the meal) For sure will be back and plan to bring some co workers along.

Very fun and unique dining experience! Creative menu done with care and originality. Small, intimate venue. Great music and vibe (contemporary). Excellent value too. Highly recommended.

Such a fantastic find! From the moment you step in, the vibe is totally unique. moody, mysterious, and kind of magical (especially once you “look past the bookcase”). The atmosphere, music, and decor set the tone for a special night. We had the mushroom arancini appetizer. For the main, both my husband and I had the chili beef ragu and wow, it was mucho delicious! The portion was generous and beautifully presented. For dessert , there is only one option : Tiramisu! But, that was the BEST Tiramisu we’ve ever had! The drink menu was also impressive. so many options, and each one incredibly creative. These aren’t your average cocktails. I had the Black Bird and the Nerotini, and both were stunning in presentation and flavor. Loved it and we’ll definitely go back !

I haven’t had a meal experience this good in Ottawa in a while. We went to Tredici to celebrate a friend’s 40th birthday—there were five of us—and the entire experience was excellent from start to finish. The atmosphere was really cool, with a fun and memorable touch right from the beginning thanks to the secret door entrance. It immediately set the tone for a great night. Prices were extremely reasonable in my opinion. The food did not disappoint—especially the lasagna, which was absolutely delicious. The cocktails were very well made, with cute and unique presentation that made them stand out. What really impressed us was the service. Our server was a true one-man show—seating us, making cocktails, preparing food—and still managed to be incredibly friendly, attentive, and welcoming throughout the evening. Highly recommended. I’ll definitely be back.

Highly recommend. Tredici is a Gothic Italian speakeasy restaurant with great food and amazing cocktails. You enter through a fake bookcase and go down to the stairs. Ordered the focaccia and meatballs to start, then the smashed lasagna and chicken parm aglio e olio. The food was excellent and reasonably priced given the portion sizes. Definitely get the meatballs. Also got two cocktails, which were excellent. Great service as well. The servers were super nice, food came out quickly. Hands down my favourite restaurant in Byward Market, probably even in Ottawa.

I had the pleasure of dining at Tradici last night, and it was an absolute delight from start to finish. The service was warm, attentive, and made the whole experience feel special. We started with the arancini, which were perfectly crisp on the outside and rich and flavorful inside—truly the kind of appetizer you want to linger over. For my main, I went with the pasta, a beautifully made cacio e pepe. It was simple in the best possible way, showcasing quality ingredients and balance—comforting yet elegant. To finish, I couldn’t resist the tiramisu, and it did not disappoint. Light, creamy, and just the right amount of sweetness, it was the perfect ending to a wonderful meal. Tradici combines amazing food with genuine hospitality, and it shines in the heart of the ByWard Market. I’ll definitely be coming back again soon.
